Learning A Selection Tool In Photoshop

When you want to take one of the objects in a Photo or picture, of course you feel a bit difficult, therefore I will give tips and tricks how to select objects in Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop has a technique for making selection when editing. Namely: copy, delete, and modify an image.

From the example image above, you would find it difficult when you want to take the object of the female model as big as object without any other object or background. Adobe Photoshop has two techniques for the first slice is bitmap selection, for bitmap techniques you can use the selection tool that has been provided. Namely: Rectangular Marquee Tool, Marquee Tool, Magic Wand Tool, Quick Selection Tool, Lasso Tool, Polygon Tool and Magnetic Tool. While the second technique is the vector technique is to use the Pen Tool and Shape Tool then in the change to the selection.

Selection Using Marquee Tool

The Marquee Tool provides several types that can be used to make selection, increase selection, and reduce selection.
  • The first step, choose one of the selection tools on Marquee Tool.
Marquee Tool.
  • Create a selection area on the drawing using the Marquee Tool, I'll give an example below here.
Example.
  • Selects by using the Elliptical Marquee Tool
Example.
  • Choose the type of selection you want to use and I have given the example above, I have used the selection type Rectangular Marquee Tool and Elliptical Marquee Tool.
  • Style Function On Marquee Tool
Normal => useful to make selection normally.
Fixed Ration => to set the length and width of the selection by ratio, so that the length and width will be proportional to the length and width values.
Fixed Size => to set the length and height of the selection in pixel form, so it will make the selection automatically according to the length and height of the selection.
Selection Using Lasso Tool

Lasso tool provides several types that can be used to make selection, increase selection, and reduce existing selection. Some types of Lasso tool are: Lasso Tool, Polygonal Lasso Tool, and Magnetic Lasso Tool
  • Lasso Tool works to make the selection freely and I will give an example below here.
  •  First, select the Lasso tool.
Lasso Tool.
  • Click and Drag on the area you want to make the selection.
Example.
  • Polygonal Lasso Tool serves to create polygon-shaped selection (multifaceted). This technique is commonly used to make selections on box-shaped objects (books, windows, televisions, cabinets, tables etc.).
  • First, choice Polygonal Lasso Tool
Polygonal Lasso Tool.
  • Click on the object to be made selection, I am here selecting the selection area on the television.
Example.
  • Magnetic Lasso Tool works for selecting free-form objects, the way the tool works is attached to the edges of the object to be cut as the mouse moves around the edges of the object, during the selection process of these devices forming the selection points.
  • I will give examples of how the Magnetic Lasso Tool works.
  • First, activate the Magnetic Lasso tool.
Magnetic Lasso tool.
  • I will make a selection on the guitar object, as in the picture below.

Example.
Selection Using Quick Selection Tool And Magic Wand Tool
  • To create a selection area based on the color tonal selected by the tip of my mouse brush will give you an example of how the Quick Selection Tool works.
  • First, select Quick Selection Tool
Quick Selection Tool.
  • I will make the selection area in the color image I have, as in the picture below.
Example.
  • Magic Wand Tool can choose by setting the tolerance value and scope value of the color, the greater the color value the more wide the selected color range.
  • To create a selection area based on similar colors I will give an example of how Magic Wand Tool works.
  • Select the Magic Wand tool
Magic Wand Tool.
  •  I will selection one color in the picture below.

Example.
Selection Using Pen Tool

Selection techniques using the Pen tool are very effective when retrieving objects that are among other objects. To make a selection, you must create a path using the Pen tool according to the field to be selected then the path is changed to selection. This technique is often used on designers when making selection because it is easy to use and the results are more accurate than using an existing selection tool.
  • I will give an example of how Pen Tool works.
  • First activate the Pen tool.

Pen Tool.
  • Click on the desired object, then click elsewhere, then click elsewhere again until the entire object to be selected is inside the path. And do not forget, the path form should be closed and I'll give an example below here.
Example.
  • The next step is to change the path to selection. First show the Path palette, if it does not appear, select Windows> Path menu. By default, when you enable the Layers palette, then the Channels and Path palettes automatically appear as the three palettes in a group
  • Click the Load to selection icon, at the bottom of the Path palette.
Layer Palette.
  • Then copy the object, press Ctrl + C then open the new image to place the object.
Example.
  • Press Ctrl + V, then set the position in the appropriate place.
